Gelber & Associates uses the owl as a symbol throughout its literature as a reference not only to the traditional wisdom implied by the creature, but also as a reference to the mascot of Houston's RICE UNIVERSITY — the alma mater of many of our staff past and present.

In 2008 we set out to update our monogram logo. Our staff were looking for a classic Gothic font to exemplify the experience of nearly two decades for Gelber as an energy firm. Unsatisfied with available fonts, custom lettering was produced in-house.

This gave us a special opportunity to inject a bit of flair into the form of the G. While it doesn't give away its secret at first glance, the Gelber "G" monogram was inspired by the Athenian owl on the ancient Greek tetradrachma coin. The illustration to the right explains the format.

The Greeks believed that the owl was a symbol of good fortune. In keeping with this lore, Gelber keeps the actual statuette depicted in the corner below (and on the front page of this website) watching over our office — perched high on the top of a prominent book case.
